MEMORIAL DAY PRAYER

Please remember this prayer as we observe Memorial Day. It was written by J. Michael Shannon, a professor at CCU. Mike was also the Senior Minister at Highview Christian Church when I was secretary there.

Hope you enjoy the pic of Papaw. He stood ready to make the ultimate sacrifice. Thankfully, the good Lord had other plans for him -- to raise our family with love, discipline and faith.

Help us, oh God, never to take lightly the sacrifices people have made of Your most precious gift of life.  We know that those who gave their lives did not do so lightly, but they did do so willingly.  We are the beneficiaries of their sacrifice.  Help us to honor them by always remembering.  Help us to honor them by giving back to our world nation and community.  We will remember and be encouraged by the great cloud of witnesses.  We pray through Jesus, who gave his life even for his enemies, AMEN.

Thank you for the prayer and for the picture of that handsome devil in the uniform.

As for your thoughts about Dad raising us with love, discipline and faith, I will have to agree... the threat of that Marine Corps belt sure influenced a lot of my decisions growing up! hehehe
