I went to Scranton Pennsylvania last week. I have worked off-and-on all year designing an installation survey kit for Rolls-Royce model 250 engines. They'll use the system to determine if an engine installed for the first time in a particular airframe is a suitable application. If it's a good install they'll be able to use the reports generated from my system to get FAA approval for their airframe certification.
It's hard to tell from the pictures but it's a small jet engine attached to a gearbox that drives the propeller. So... it's a turbo prop. The aircraft model is a Silver Eagle II. It's a 6 seater turbo prop that you can pick up for about $1,500,000.
I went with 2 other engineers and Marty Adams my buddy from years of working at RR. Marty did the hookups for the engine parameters and I did the data system. The other guys were vibration and engine characteristics experts. We had awful weather but managed to get some testing in on the last day we were there. We weren't able to finish all of the testing. The wind was so strong at times it was pushing the aircraft across the runway sideways. We never did get to fly. We'll go back sometime in the late spring next year to try again after the weather improves.
Here's Marty hooking things up. He is quite the craftsmen. You can see the cables rolled up on the floor. He ran them through the wing and then up the side of the aircraft and in through the window.
Here I am working on some last minute changes. There are ALWAYS last minute changes.
